In a world often marred by challenges and uncertainties, it’s heartening to witness moments of collective action and compassion that bring about positive change. Recently, on February 6, 2024, a remarkable milestone was reached as the #SmilewithLG campaign culminated in a triumphant gala event at The Den, 14 Riverside. This campaign, a collaborative effort between LG Electronics East Africa, the Rotary Club of Nairobi Madaraka, and the Rotaract Club of the University of Nairobi (UoN) Afya, showcased the power of partnership in driving impactful community initiatives.
At the heart of the #SmilewithLG campaign was a mission to uplift and support communities in Kenya, addressing critical needs and fostering positive change. Through the unwavering support of LG customers and the dedication of partnering organizations, a staggering Kshs. 6 million (about US$40,900) was raised, signaling a resounding success and a testament to the generosity and goodwill present within society.
The gala event served as a moment of celebration, gratitude, and reflection, as esteemed guests including Rotary District 9212 officials, such as District Governor Elect Dr. Joe Kamau and Assistant Governor for Nairobi Region, Rotarian Ashley Myers, joined representatives from Rotary Club of Nairobi Madaraka and Rotaract Club of UoN Afya in acknowledging the significance of this collective achievement. Their presence underscored the collaborative spirit and shared commitment to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
Rotary Club of Nairobi Madaraka President, Rotarian Joel Wandurwa, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support received through the #SmilewithLG campaign. His words resonated deeply, highlighting the profound difference that can be made when individuals and organizations come together with a common purpose. Wandurwa’s sentiments echoed the ethos of Rotary International, emphasizing service above self and the transformative power of community engagement.
The funds raised through the #SmilewithLG campaign will be allocated to three deserving beneficiary institutions, each representing a beacon of hope and resilience within their respective communities. Gathiga Children’s Hope Home, located in Kenya’s Kiambu County, will receive Kshs. 3,150,000 (US$21,501.71) to continue its noble mission of providing sanctuary and support to vulnerable street children. The Maktaba Project, a literacy initiative spearheaded by Rotary Clubs of Nairobi Madaraka and Dundas Valley Sunrise, will be bolstered by a donation of Kshs. 582,000 (US$3972.70), furthering its efforts to promote education and literacy through the establishment of functional libraries in underserved schools. Additionally, the Oldorko Mosiro Primary School Project will benefit from Kshs. 2,268,000 (US$15481.23), enabling the school to offer refuge and education to children escaping adversity.
These beneficiary institutions serve as shining examples of resilience, compassion, and the unwavering determination to create a better future for those in need. Their work is a poignant reminder of the transformative power of community-driven initiatives and the ripple effect of kindness and generosity.
As we reflect on the success of the #SmilewithLG campaign, we are reminded that positive change is possible when individuals and organizations unite with a shared vision. It is through collaboration, empathy, and a commitment to service that we can overcome challenges, uplift communities, and create a brighter, more inclusive world for all. In closing, let us extend our heartfelt gratitude to LG Electronics East Africa, the Rotary Club of Nairobi Madaraka, the Rotaract Club of the University of Nairobi (UoN) Afya, and all those who contributed to the success of the #SmilewithLG campaign. Together, we have made a tangible difference in the lives of others, spreading smiles, and embodying the true spirit of compassion and solidarity. As we continue this collective journey of impact and empowerment, may we always remember the profound difference that each act of kindness can make in building a better tomorrow.
